Mid-Level Practicum

Providing clinical skills to the paramedics who form the backbone of the rural health care team.

National Need

  • Study shows poor clinical skills in mid-level workers, usually trained under private institutes.
  • Mid-levels provide the main clinical service outside of hospitals

Course Description

  • 2.5 month course
  • Concentrates on 20 common syndromes (using algorithms for decision making) and on 10 common medical procedures

Results

  • Graduates during pilot phase increased their average skill scores from 37 to 93%.
  • Government has adopted the course as the national training of senior auxiliary health workers (about 6000 total)
