Orientation to Resource Person on Minimum Service Standard

Realization to improve the curative services in rural hospitals with focus on hospital management lead to envision Minimum Service Standard (MSS) for hospitals. Currently, MSS has been rolled out successfully nationwide in 83 district and district level hospitals beginning from 2014 in partnership with Nick Simons Institute. MSS for hospitals is the readiness and availability tool for optimal requirement of hospitals to provide minimum services that are expected from them. It is a Checklist to Identify the Gaps in Quality Improvement of District Hospitals.  MSS was evident to contribute in quality of services provided by hospitals with instances of improved 1. Governance management, 2. Clinical services and 3. Support services. This encouraged MoHP to put on its efforts on minimum service standards for all level of hospitals and Health facilities.As a part of system strengthening of health structure in federal context, MoHP is developing a pool of resource person in all 7 provinces. MSS Resource person orientation and capacity building program was conducted on 10-11 June 2019, with the aim to assess hospital quality using MSS from provincial level health system. The total of 81 technical persons from all provinces representing Ministry of Social Development, Provincial Health Directorate, Primary Hospitals and Secondary A Hospitals participated the program. Primary Emergency Care (PEC) Training

NSI has been conducting the Primary Emergency Care (PEC) training from 26 May to 1 June in collaboration with National Health Training Center (NHTC). The training is designed for 7 days that covers 5 modules, which are Basic Life Support, Common Medical Emergencies, Primary Trauma Care, Common Orthopedic Emergencies and Mass Casualty Incident Management. The participants will be doctors, staff nurses and health assistants working in Emergency department. NSI supported NHTC to develop this training package. Safer Anaesthesia from Education (SAFE) Obstetric Training

A three-day Safer Anaesthesia from Education (SAFE) obstetric training was held from 25 – 27 April 2019 at NSI under National Academy of Medical Sciences, National Health Training Centre and World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologist. 10th Rural Healthcare Workers Conference

A three-day 10th Annual Rural Healthcare Workers Conference was organized by NSI in collaboration with National Health Training Center to honor and address the issues faced by the rural healthcare workers of Nepal. The conference was inaugurated by Hon. Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of Health and Population Mr Upendra Yadav on 25 March 2019 in Kathmandu. The objectives of the conference were as follows:- To provide encouragement and uplift to the healthcare worker.- To provide continuing medical education (CME).- To provide a forum for discussion within the government system.- To explore wider future linkages between rural healthcare workers, the government, and NSI.In the first day of the conference, the ‘Top 5 Case Stories from the Field’ telling of real-life episodes – sometimes quite heroic – that government health workers have faced were presented. The participants were then divided into five groups to discussed on the thematic issues which was later presented among the Ministry and Department officials and interact with them. Then the conference was inaugurated by the Honorable Mr. Upendra Yadav, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population. During the inauguration session, the Nick Simons Award 2018 was presented to ANM Ms. Mira Dhital of Mahamadpur Health Post, Rautahat, who had performed with unusual excellence over many years in her community.
