Safe surgery is a challenge in district hospitals of rural Nepal due to the lack of anesthesiologist working there. International acceptance of safe anesthesia by non-doctor anesthesia has grown and the course of Anesthesia Assistant has emerged as essential to safe surgery.
National Academic of Medical Science (NAMS) has developed this training package in collaboration with National Health Training Center for staff nurses and health assistants. This is a class-room, lab and operation theatre based clinical exposure training supervised by anesthesia doctors.
After completion of the course the participants will be able to provide anesthesia to perform safe surgery in the district hospitals.
It is a one-year course under National Academic of Medical Sciences (NAMS), Bir Hospital.
The course has been conducted at AMDA Hospital, Damak, National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bir Hospital, Paropakar Maternity Hospital, Model Hospital, Bharatpur Hospital, Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences and United Mission Hospital, Palpa.
